Stunning Condition – Detailed restoration to Show
standard!
This is a truly magnificent
Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Completely restored by Park-Ward Motors and presents
in pinnacle condition of the marque. Finished in 2-tone Black over burgundy with
deep red Connolly hide interior. Hand painted fine-lines using the traditional
dying art of brush-painted pin-striping to the waist-rails and hubcap beauty
rings.
This Silver Shadow is simply
stunning in all respects and it is as best you
might expect for a 50 year old Rolls-Royce. It is that nice!
This car was a bespoke build
for one of our clients.
What we did:
Paint - When bought by us the car was very straight and sported its original
paint, albeit faded and beginning to peel. The car was entirely stripped to a
rolling shell. Doors, bonnet and boot off, no chrome, no fittings, no glass, no
rubbers. The paint was stripped back using chemical stripping agents and then
hand-sanded to its fundamental metal finish. There was minimal bodywork as the
car was very straight and entirely rust free to commence with. When repainted,
it was done so in Dulux 2 stage clear over base with no less than 4 coats of
clear. When the car was reassembled, all new window rubbers, moulding rubbers,
new lights, lenses were used and most clips, fasteners and screws replaced for
factory new ones.
Interior - The leather seats were in good condition when we
received the car so we simply put them thru our hand-finishing re-Connollising
process. Almost everything else inside the car was renewed or refurbished. If
renewed, it was all done utilising genuine Rolls-Royce quality finishes and
materials. The headlining was replaced using pure wool broad-cloth imported
from the
Almost everything on the car was done to factory and original look with the exception
of one feature. The owner wanted something signature to him and his passion
within the textile trade. To this end, the headliner was done in a plaid wool that
is one of his fabric lines. It compliments well with the car and is very
dramatic. We understand, of course, it may not suit the tastes of all buyers (or
some of the purists) so rest assured, this can be changed by us if desired. It
sure it an interesting talking-point as is!
Mechanically - Not a single stone left un-turned. Upon
commencement, the engine was compression and leak down tested with good
results. With a good base, basically everything was either overhauled,
replaced, serviced or inspected and tested at the least.
Brakes & hydraulics - The system is quite literally, completely
overhauled. Both brake pumps, pressure valves rebuilt and fitted new accumulators
with original "Safety Tags". Various steel brake lines and all
flexible rubber hoses replaced (x 15 in total) for factory
New brake rotors and all 6
calipers totally rebuilt with new pads and repainted to factory finish. Every
single hydraulic suspension part was rebuilt; T-valves, restrictors, height
control valves and solenoid.
Carburettors were overhauled
and tuned, new filters hoses fitted. The fuel pump was a factory
"new/old" stock correct dual pump fitted. Water pump rebuilt with factory bulletin updates. New fan belts, hoses and lines for cooling, vacuum and fuel.
Exhaust - Brand new composite steel factory correct mufflers were fitted.
Under the hood, she was
modestly detailed with new under-bonnet pads fitted.
Features & functions - Every single feature and function has been
inspected, repaired and serviced as required. Sometimes so, without the need
but maintained nonetheless. This includes A/C, heater, air distribution and
fans, all electric windows, seats, central locking. Every gauge has been
inspected with each individually opened and cleaned. The speedometer was
changed to a new one on request of the client (original mileage 68,000) and new
cable fitted. The mileage shown now is that travelled since the restoration. All
interior lights work as they should including the most insignificant dash
light.
Final finishes - Every piece of stainless; grille, headlight brows,
hubcaps were machine polished as Rolls-Royce did when new and present
"like-for-like" as new.
It is almost impossible for
me to list everything we did to the car, but here is a summary of cost:
1) Body and paint - $25,000
2) Interior - $15,000
3) Mechanical and feature and
function refurbishment: $20,000
4) Overall, under hood and
underside detailing - $10,000
This whole exercise was done
out of love and passion so what you are seeing is the "full Monty".
Every single thing works and the car drives virtually like a new one. But she
is more than a "trailer queen". You can drive her on a regular basis
with confidence and security. To wit, I recently drove her on a 200 mile round tour in the country-side and she did not miss a beat in any department.
Please make no mistake - this
is a correctly restored car and the price reflects accordingly. More than likely THE
most expensive 69 Silver Shadow for sale but equally - it IS the best!
Calling any classic car that is somer 50 years old "perfect" is a big call, so I will call this a
95-out-of-100 point Silver Shadow classic.
~~ An extremely handsome Silver Shadow, in all, this is a wonderful example that is ready to be enjoyed at its finest. The chrome bumper cars are becoming more and more desirable and so this fully restored example is an absolute treat to own and drive. It ranks solidly for show display at any Rolls-Royce meet. ~~
