Silver Shadow II

1979

~ 14,500 miles ~

Amongst one of the better original presenting examples you will find!

Here is a really fine and original example of a Silver Shadow II. Finished in Acrylic white with Royal blue Connolly hide interior and matching carpets. Dark blue fine lines adorn the waist-rails and beauty rings to match the interior. The same Royal blue theme carries through to the boot.

This is an amazingly original example that has never been restored and nicely maintained by 3 owners since new showing only 14,000 miles. She presents in amazing excellent condition. It is primarily all original with no modifications – right down to the original Blaupunkt push button radio and separate cassette player. This was a west coast car, owned by its first owner for some 35 years, so it is a “dry” car that had not seen any harmful weather conditions. The second owner had her in a private collection museum environment for most of their tenure whilst the third owner of only 2-3 years, a collector residing overseas, kept the car in storage the whole time. As a result, it has been completely freed from the perils of harsh weather and is very clean underneath and all over. It has always been well maintained and serviced by authorized Rolls-Royce agents and comes with its original manual.

There can be no doubt the low 14,500 miles on this car is original as everything is like new. If you remember these cars when in show rooms brand new, the epoxy coated steering wheel had a slight softness to it when you pushed in your finger nail. This car does that and I cannot think of another Shadow II that has displayed this characteristic since the late 80’s.

The body on this Shadow II is very straight and the paint is shiny and lustrous. The top half of the was repainted by us just recently only because it showed light crazing and we felt this let the car down compared to the rest of its condition. Otherwise, the paint was clean, straight and consistent all over – and factory original.  Rolls-Royce used a single stage paint process that generally did not “go the distance”. To wit, most Rolls-Royces of this era have all been repainted. For this one to have its original paint until only recently is a testament to its careful ownership and low mileage. It could only have been stored in a climate controlled environment when not is use for it to be this nice. When you look down the sides of the car, they are very straight and true. The paint now presents beautifully with not even the typical lead wiping marks showing at the base of the “A” and “C” pillars. There are almost no imperfections and I would venture to suggest she is as good as you would expect. She needs nothing going forward other than a wax from time to time.

The interior of this Shadow II looks simply superb. The rich dark blue Connolly hide leather is 100% original from the factory. It has never been re-dyed and is in absolutely outstanding condition with no tears nor fading and super supple and soft – true to its Connolly characteristics. Have a look at the photos where I am creasing up the leather with my hand. The leather really has been lovingly preserved and is close to perfect.

The burr walnut wood throughout the car is also original and very good. They are not as perfect as the leather showing some of the signature hairline fractures in the clear – common to all Rolls-Royces of the era. These appear on the dash fascia along with some seatbelt buckle knicks on the driver door capping. Notwithstanding they are significantly advanced over typical examples and are in no need of redoing. The originality far outweighs the strive for perfection in my opinion. The colour is deep, the grain rich and the finish smooth.

The head lining is all original and in fantastic condition still displaying the thick pile of the Broad cloth wool. Likewise, is the leather finish to the dash and top-roll. The rich blue Wilton wool carpets with blue leather binding are in true “as-new” condition. They would look absolutely darling with Rolls-Royce “Mouton” (lambswool) rug overlays so please enquire if you agree.  The boot (trunk) carpet with the same theme is also in great condition.

The Silver Shadow II presented here has been work-shop inspected. This car, like all our Rolls-Royces, is subject to Park-Ward’s “Predelivery Commissioning” process which ensures all and every major and minor service is attended to before shipping. Important costly items such as the hydraulics and brakes are fully inspected and serviced as required. This includes replacing all of the brake hoses and system pressure tested/serviced and bled. Our predelivery Commissioning process is not just limited to mechanical items but all operational feature items as well; AC, heater, windows, seats and so on to ensure all is working as it should. As such, when the car is ready to be shipped to its new owner, she is offered in true “turn key” status, ready to be driven and enjoyed.

The odometer shows a low 14,580 and the overall condition of the car evidences, without doubt, the mileage is correct (particularly when you look at the condition of the interior, under-hood, brake pedal etc). It is very quiet and smooth on the road without any of the typical “thumps” and “rattles” typical of poor (or even averagely) maintained examples of this model.

Unbelievably, the white-wall tyres are most likely the 2nd set for the car! These have not been produced for more than 20 years so are another testament to originality. They will, of course, need replacing and we will do so at no charge as part of the Predelivery Commissioning process. The hubcaps are excellent with no imperfections in the stainless and beauty rings. All remaining bright-work is in good condition.

Under the bonnet, the presentation is amazing. It has not been precision detailed but simply kept clean and tidy throughout its life. The under-bonnet heat pads are like new! If you were to wonder what a Silver Shadow II looked like under the bonnet when near new – this is it. You must take the time to look at the photos of the engine bay as its presentation is like that of only a 5-10 year old example. Simply stunning!

As you would expect, this Shadow II comes with its original jack, correct tools and operating manual.

The car is of very high standard and is an easy 10 out of 10 driver rating and preservation class show-winner.

~~ This stately Silver Shadow II is an excellent condition representation of the marque that is ready to be driven and enjoyed. It makes for an excellent driver for either everyday driving or sunny weekend enjoyment. You could easily take her to your next Rolls-Royce meet and attract attention if not a prize – it is that good! ~~

International bidders are always welcome.
