Silver Dawn

1997

Stunning combination and condition ~ rare and desirable Silver Dawn (Silver Spur IV)

Here is a really stunning Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn last of the series (very similar to the colloquially referred to; Silver Spur IV) finished in all over Pearl Silver with beautiful matching grey Connolly leather hides accented in a darker grey piping and trim. The twin fine lines to the waist-rails are hand-painted in grey to match the interior accents.

Pearl Silver was a brand new special-order colour for the Silver Dawn.

It was a special-order car also in that it was built with the owner’s name brass inlaid to the front door cappings; Mrs Emma “Emily” De La Fonti, a well-known Chicago socialite from the 1970s and onwards who, through her daughter’s marriage, was part of a notable Illinois family renowned to have one of the biggest vintage Rolls-Royce collections in the world. Her daughter’s husband specially ordered this Silver Dawn and presented it as a gift to his mother-in-law, Emily De La Fonti, the first and only owner. Mrs De La Fonti sadly passed away last year. She was well-known to our Founder, Rodd Sala. Park-Ward Motors acquired the car from the estate.

The Silver Dawn is part of what is known as a 59,000 series SZ so it has all the upgrades over the previous models; the Silver Spirit and Silver Spur, II and III. Released in late 1995, they feature a vast number of engine and drive train improvements and cosmetic updates. A new design of intake manifold and cylinder heads increased power output. The parameters of the semi-active suspension system were improved, noticeably impacting ride quality. Dual airbags were introduced inside, along with independent adjustment of the rear seats and a revised dash and centre console. They are distinctive on the road with their wrap-around style integrated front and rear bumper design.

Atop of this, this particular Silver Dawn was ordered with all the additional options available to include premium leather throughout.

This Silver Dawn is very well known to us having been a fully maintained example by us for the last 15 years, whereby everything and anything needing to be done was without sparing expense. Every service is completely up to date.

The car has travelled a modest 73,000 miles and looks and drives every part of a car half the mileage.

The body of the car is entirely straight and without ever having been any repair or paint. The finish is excellent. It is all original and is consistent and very deep in lustre and shine. There are hardly any notable chips and marks if any. It is very shiny without any fading, dents or dings. Rubbers, mouldings, badges and external fittings are all in excellent condition.

The interior of this car is stunning. The Connolly leather shows beautifully and is completely original. It remains very soft and supple without any signs of extraordinary wear. The grey combination is strikingly elegant. The wood throughout is excellent and can comfortably be described as excellent showing no lacquer cracks or marks, which is rather rare to see given that all Rolls-Royces, even those much newer than this one, will generally show some signs of hairline cracks in the clear finish. And, of course, the 50,000+ series cars have the beautiful teak in-lay that is truly in tune with the best of wood-working craftsmanship. As mentioned previously, this one was specially ordered with brass inlay of “Emily De La Fonti” on the front doors and “Silver Dawn” for the rear doors.

Carpets, seats, dash, front top-roll, rear parcel shelf and fixtures are truly excellent and I best encourage you to look at all the photos to fully appreciate how nicely the interior presents.

As part of Park-Ward’s maintenance program known as “Predelivery Commissioning”, all electricals and features & functions are inspected so when the car is delivered, everything is operating as it should; windows, seats, mirrors, A/C, heater, lights, wipers, etc. Right down to every light bulb in the dash. This is a true, “take the keys and drive” example with no additional budget needed to attend to any nuances or gremlins.

Being a well-maintained example. It is tight to drive, brakes strong and rides as a Rolls-Royce should.

When describing a car for sale, one should be very careful to use terms like “perfect” and “flawless” because nothing but a brand new car can be described this way. That said, this Silver Dawn is close to, is of a very high standard and is an easy 10 out of 10 driver rating. She is 100% factory original in specification in every respect.
