Charles Stewart Rolls, (born 28 August, 1877, London, UK.—died 12 July, 1910, Bournemouth, Hampshire UK).
British motorist, aviator, and automobile manufacturer. Charles Rolls became a pioneer motor car dealer in 1902 selling motor cars in London under the name of CS Rolls & Co. He built his first motor car in 1904. After an historic meeting in May of that year with Henry Royce at the Midland Hotel, Manchester, an agreement was reached to build a new car under the name of “Rolls-Royce”. The first such Rolls-Royce was sold in 1906.
He was the first aviator to fly across the English Channel and back nonstop (June 1910) and sadly, the first Briton to be killed in an aeronautical accident in the same year. He was 32.

English engineer famous for his designs of car and aeroplane engines with a reputation for reliability and longevity. Combining his engineering skills and commitment to excellence, the partnership with Charles Royce saw the launch of the Silver Ghost in 1906 which, within one year, was hailed as “the best car in the world”.
Henry Royce continued to engineer the world’s most sought after cars while the aircraft engines of Rolls-Royce became national treasures.
Royce, who never forgot his humble beginnings lived by the motto; “Whatever is rightly done, however humble, is noble”.
